Spring is in the Air.
The last of the winter blues are thawing out, the nights are getting longer and a long New Zealand Summer is just around the corner. Whether you're planning the colours and plants for your summer garden or giving the house the great ‘Spring Clean' you need to relax. The crazy Christmas session is nearly here and you know you won't have time for yourself for a while so this month's cocktail is the traditional spring drink the "Long Island Ice Tea".
This drink helped me in meeting my fiancée and is a great drink for after work for just sitting out on the deck, watching the sun go down and just chilling with friends and loved ones.
Long Island Iced Tea was first served in the late 1970s by Robert (Rosebud) Butt, a bartender at the Oak Beach Inn, in the Town of Babylon, Long Island,New York.
Long Island Ice Tea
Ingredients:
60ml Vodka
15ml Gin
15ml White Rum
15ml Tequila
15ml Triple Sec
60ml Sweet and Sour Mix
1 Splash Cola
1 Slice Lemon
Method:
Fill a tall glass with plenty of ice and add all ingredients in order. Stir
Garnish:
A slice or Wedge of Lemon
Tips:
- The amounts can be changed depending on your taste (if you like Gin more than Rum, just add more gin and less rum).
- Sweet and Sour Mix is simple a mix you can make (Combine 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water until sugar is completely dissolved. Add 1 cup fresh lime juice and 1 cup fresh lemon juice and refrigerate)
- The Cola can actually be replaced with tea if you prefer. Green Tea is especially good.
